Z_PROBE_Y_OFFSET Ignored by G29/G32 but OK in Bed height map

Hi,

I own a P3Steel cartesian printer. I've installed 0.92.8 firmware and configured Z-probe offsets but couldn't do a proper characterization of the bed because G29/G32 ignore the Z_PROBE_Y_OFFSET.

Z_PROBE_X_OFFSET works OK and using the "Bed Height Map" tool works correctly with same offsets and testing points.

The offsets are:

#define Z_PROBE_X_OFFSET -37.3
#define Z_PROBE_Y_OFFSET -25

The measure points are:

#define Z_PROBE_X1 0
#define Z_PROBE_Y1 0
#define Z_PROBE_X2 172.700
#define Z_PROBE_Y2 0
#define Z_PROBE_X3 0
#define Z_PROBE_Y3 174

With this configuration the Y carriage will start going to Y=0 (not taking into account the offset) leaving the Zprobe out of the bed but X carriage goes to 37.3 positioning the probe exactly where the extruder is supposed to be in the X axis.

To make the Y axis start where is supposed to be, I have to set #define Z_PROBE_X1 25, in other words I have to add the Z_PROBE_Y_OFFSET but this ends in a wrong auto level matrix.

I've dumped EPROM data and re-uploaded the code but problem persists. The Z-probe pin Is Z-MAX end-stop pin and no end-stop is assigned to that pin. I also home all axes prior to start Z-probing.

Could you help me?

If the firmware is in laser mode, it can control a laser output to cut or engrave materials.
Please use this feature only if you know about safety and required protection. Lasers are
dangerous and can hurt or make you blind!!!

The default laser driver only supports laser on and off. Here you control the eíntensity with
your feedrate. For exchangeable diode lasers this is normally enough. If you need more control
you can set the intensity in a range 0-255 with a custom extension to the driver. See driver.h
and comments on how to extend the functions non invasive with our event system.

If you have a laser - powder system you will like your E override. If moves contain a
increasing extruder position it will laser that move. With this trick you can
use existing fdm slicers to laser the output. Laser width is extrusion width.

Other tools may use M3 and M5 to enable/disable laser. Here G1/G2/G3 moves have laser enabled
and G0 moves have it disables.

In any case, laser only enables while moving. At the end of a move it gets
automatically disabled.

Comments

  • Note: I also tested setting up #define Z_PROBE_Y_OFFSET 25 (positive) but the printer behaves exactly the same.
  • It's always the same routine adding offset so it works. Go to Y100 and start from there and see if it then works. If you start after homing you can not move the y offset as it would hit y endstop, so the y move is ignored. At least that is what I guess is happening.
  • Hi, moving Y to 100 prior to starting the probing process seems to work! :D If I understand well, firmware will move the head to offseted position prior to start the Zprobing moves. Since I'm using Y-max endstop it can't be done. Correct?

    Anyway, thank you very much for your help, Will add a G0 Y100 to the Zprobe start Gcode.
  • Now I've a different problem, this time is extruder related. With the previous firmware the extrusion flow was correct (Actually I had to low flowrate to 0.93) but with 0.02.8 the flow rate is very small even at 150% extrusion.

    No changes were made to the extruder nor configuration. Manually extruding  X millimeters of filament works flawless. Is there any changes that could affect the extrusion?
  • probing: yes it is activated at the beginning and the move must be valid at that point which was not possible due to y max homing posititon.

    No we made no changes to extrusion. Manual and gcode extrusion are the same commands, If you had set slicer to volumetric the values would be too small.
  • I've made no modifications to Slic3r after update and prior to the firmware update extrusion worked fine. I've triple checked that volumetric extrusion is disabled and even activated "relative E" and volumetric extrusion, saved then disabled and saved again whithout results.

    Issue seems Slic3r related. the extruder works as if 3mm filament were configured on slicer but having 1.75 filament in the machine. I was able to succesfully print setting "extrusion multiplier" to 6 on Slicer...

    Any clues?
  • Sounds like diameter is set to 3mm but since you already meantion it I assume you have checked it. So as long as e steps per mm in firmware are ok, that seems wrong. And as you said 10mm manual extrusion takes 10mm in, so that seems also to be correct. Then we have the flow multiplyer in host that makes a difference but that stops at 300%.
  • Anyway, the printer is printing very nice with extrusion multiplier set to 6 so, if it works... Don't touch it XD If I have time in the future, I will freshly install the host in other computer to see if there works OK.

    Thank you very much for your work and support. That's the reason I always recommend Repetier to my friends.
