Is there a systems diagram for Repetier?

Our print farm keeps getting bigger and bigger, and managing everything through a bunch of separate octoprint servers is getting to be untenable.  

It looks like Repetier is an improvement, but it's difficult to say what switching over would entail since I can't find a systems diagram showing:

1. What are the major hardware components of a Repetier-based print farm?
2. How are the major hardware components connected physically?
3. What are the major software components?
4. How do the software components communicate?

For example, some mention is made of there being two separate software components, host and server, but searching the documentation, there's no mention of on what components they are supposed to be installed or the differences between host and server.

 I don't need a detailed explanation here, just looking for pointers to the correct documentation.

  • First you can use Repetier-Server as 1:1 replacement to octoprint. It runs on all debian based linux systems, windows or mac.It needs less CPU power then octoprint but more is always good. Each instance can run mutiple printer in parallel and you will see them all in the web gui if you open the server ip just like in octoprint only multiple.

    Coming with next 0.92.0 release there will be a tool Repetier-Monitor for Windows, Mac and 64 bit intel Linux to connect to multiple servers at once for basic control tasks with direct interface to all printers. This is especially meant for print farms using multiple server instances.

    Repetier-Host is a windows software for controlling one printer (you can configure multiple) and as connection method it also contains Repetier-Server. So you can use it to control any of the printers remotely and even slice and send gcode to it, but it is not required. You can do the same from web gui or monitor (except slicing).
