X Speed vs Y Speed

My X Speed is substantially faster than Y Speed.  I have checked the Configurator settings and the .json file and, as far as I can tell, both are set identically.  I have also reloaded from EEPROM.  Can anyone tell me where to look or why these are supposed to be so different?

    I found the discrepancy was the microstepping jumpers were installed on one but not the other.  So the question now becomes, what is this purpose?  Why / when would microstepping be preferred or not preferred?

    You always prefer microstepping. Until 1/16 if gives normally more accuracy then it makes at least printing more silent and maybe a bit accuracy gain.
