Cant get extruder to rise in temp.

Hello, I am currently converting my Davinci Jr. 1.0 to use the Repetier Host. I am having a couple problems with getting the extruder fan, and extruder itself to turn on. I am using a ramps 1.4 board as well and the power supply that came with the Davinci printer. I am able to get the board to connect to the printer using the 11500 baud rate. But when I go to test to see if the extruder and fan heat up I get the error the a heater is decoupled. I copied over the entire log from the software for anyone to look at. My connections all seem solid, so I am not sure what the issue could be. If any additional info is needed, please let me know. Thank you in advanced!

  • Looks like you use repetier firmware. As error says after 13 seconds of heating the extruder temperature did not rise. There are several typical errors causing it:
    1) No power - test if motors move.
    2) Wrong heater pin
    3) Wrong sensor pin, e.g. bed and extruder swapped. See if when heating the bed raises temperature.
    4) Fan using same pin as heater overriding setting. Normally on RAMPS fan pin is D9 which can also be used as second extruder heater
    5) Mosfet for extruder defect
    6) max pwm not 255 but 0. You should see in temperature graph how much output firmware tries to send. At beginning it should be 100%.

    All will result in the same error, so hard to say what is your error, but now you have a list to check.

    Thanks for the response. I need some more clarification on some of the points you listed. First none of the motors are wired up yet, just the extruder, fan, and the thermistor. Could them not being wired up cause this problem? Could you explain what you mean by mosfet in point 5? Thanks again for the help, ill start looking into all this once i get the chance
  • On a ramps there are to power inputs. You need power on both of them. One is for motors and extruders (hence the motor test) and the other is only for bed. So if you only wired bed, extruders will not work.

    Mosfet are the chips using the small 5V signal from cpu to enable 12V power on extruder output. It has happened that these are defect so not switching or stay switched on. Just a point of possible failure also not that likely.
