Firmware settings for SD card

We are running a large reprap directly from Repetier on a Mac laptop through the control box they supplied. We have never used the SD card input, control box does not recognize cards.

Company that made our printer is out of business and not supplying tech support.

We contacted Panucatt that manufactured the controller and they told us to check this setting to rule it out before checking physical connections:

"make sure your firmware is not configured to use SDCARDDETECT, so set that to -1 in marlin or repetier."

Does anyone have step by step guide to this?  We are not programmers, I have only found information online (here and RepRap forum) that is beyond our skill level.

    Maybe you can show a photo of the printer, the controller and paste the content of "configuration.h"
