New to 3d printing, cannot get manual g-code to work

Hello,
I am new to 3d printing and can't figure out why manual g-code doesn't work. Under manual control when i type a command like g1x10y10z10f4000 my printer does nothing. The only g-code that works is g28 and g29 thats it. Any ideas what i am doing wrong. I have use other programs and the manual control and printer works fine. I would like to use repetier because i like the interface,

    Add spaces between parameter use upper case letters. Latter should not exactly be required but standard says upper case.
