Two 5v fans under RAMPS 1.4 - D9 exit

edited August 2016 in Questions & Answers
Hi!,

I'm designing a new deflector for my Delta, and my idea is to use 2x Small 5v parallel fans on my extruder, at this moment i have 1x12v fan, and is connected to D9 so i can control the fan by software but i would like to use two to create a balance cooling.
D9 is 12V.

Any advise on how to continue to use the D9 but use in series 2x 5V fans.... if i use them in series i think the consume will be 10V correct?

I'm not an electronic expert so i ask for your advise.

5V fans i have:

  • Why not simply using 2 12V fans?
For 5V you need them in a row I guess (no electronic expert either) or use heated bed output and put there a good 5v source (next problem), but then you have no heated bed so that might not be practical.
  • Hi, thanks for the reply,

I would like to use this fans because i have them :( , i have try to find this same kind of fans with 12v and i was unable to find them.
Ye, use the heated bed output is not an option.

  • Maybe a voltage dvider could be some help for you?

Not an elcrtipro my self but have used V-Dividers some times.

just need two resistiors at the right values and because the fans don't take much current there should not be any heat probs or burnt resistors (I think!)

Google voltage divider to see if that can be the solution.

    Good luck
