Issues and Tips When Using Slic3r with Repetier-Host

Hi everyone,

I've been using Repetier-Host in combination with Slic3r for some time and wanted to open a general discussion around it — both to troubleshoot a few issues and share experiences.

Some of the things I’ve run into:

  • Slic3r sometimes fails to slice models with certain geometries that CuraEngine handles fine.

  • Profiles can be tricky to tune — small changes to layer height or extrusion width occasionally cause unexpected results.

  • Repetier-Host doesn’t always reflect Slic3r changes immediately, especially when switching between slicing engines.

On the flip side, I appreciate:

  • The level of control Slic3r offers — especially with infill patterns and support material.

  • Seamless integration in Repetier-Host, once it’s dialed in correctly.

  • G-code preview and multi-extruder support.

I’m curious:

  • What have others experienced when using Slic3r in Repetier-Host?

  • Are there known issues or workarounds for better performance?

  • Any tips for profile management or advanced features that are easy to miss?

Looking forward to hearing from the community!

Comments

  • Better switch to PrusaSlicer which is still actively developed and can be seen as successor of Slic3r. More features, faster, ...
  • Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve looked into PrusaSlicer before but haven’t fully made the switch yet — mostly because I’m pretty comfortable with the Slic3r workflow inside Repetier-Host.

That said, I’m definitely open to giving it another shot, especially if it solves some of the slicing quirks I’ve been running into. Does it integrate well with Repetier-Host these days, or do you mostly use it standalone?

    Appreciate the tip!

  • I meant the bundeled prusa slicer in host. Same workflow with that.

Okay. I just want to learn something personal about you — if you're okay with that, may I ask?
  • Slic3r in Repetier-Host can be picky; models that slice easily in Cura may not always work well in Slic3r, and adjusting the extrusion width or layer height may produce strange results. Changing slicers does not always cause Repetier-Host to instantly update Slic3r settings. Once configured, Slic3r provides excellent control, multi-extruder support, and G-code previews.
