Newbie setting up a Due board
Hello all
I have put together a cartesian printer, with a due board + RADDS. Nema 17 0.9 motors, and two Bondtech BMG boden extruders and RAPS128 drivers. GT2 belts and gears for X and Y, with 8mm lead screws for Z. RADDS LCD display board. Heated bed, genuine E3D legends extruder with the chimera head fitted at the moment (offsets for X set to +9 and -9 for hte two extruders which I believe is correct).
I've used the repetier configuration tool but I am having a couple of issues.
1) Firstly, when I use the 128 micro stepping (with dip switches in the correct orientation), the motors move very, very slowly. I'm using 320 steps per mm in the firmware, calculated based on 400 steps per revolution, 2mm belt pitch, and 20 tooth pulleys.
When I drop down to 1/32, and adjust the dip switches, speed is much more reasonable though I haven't yet checked if the selected home speed is being met - I suspect not).
What might I be doing wrong here?
2) The "Back" and "Reset" buttons are not doing anything. I can't see a way to configure these - what did I miss?
3) The extruders are not moving, at all. In my first firmware, only extruder 1 would move. In all iterations since, neither will move that I can see, and when setting the extruder position in the menu, they won't move and the value for "position" does not change when the knob is turned.
Also, when I select "change filament" nothing seems to happed, other than the X Y and Z homing again when I come out of that menu.
How can I get the extruders to move? Is there a reliable way to test them? Yes, the RAPS are orinentated the right way and were from the start.
The extruder heaters work, as does the heated bed. So obviously not quite off the ground yet so haven't tried to print, Doubtless I will have more issues as I go!
Happy to post up my config if it helps.
Thanks for reading!

Cables (swapped with other motors, they work)
RAPS drivers (swapped with other motors, they work)
Poor connections (unlikely on both motors but they are definitely good after buzzing out with a meter)
I've gone through the settings in the configuration tool several times, assigned the extruders to "1" and "2" as well as "0" and "1",with no joy...
*edit*
Nope. They are set as "0" and "1" in the firmware - this I presume is correct?
So, remaining... Slow steppers when 1/128 stepping selected - have I got the correct settings there?
One of the extruders (the second one) will not turn... Why could this be?
for 128 microstepping you need 1280 steps/mm
-3) extruders need at least a temperature of 160 degrees to move OR cold extrusion allowed
you can allow cold extrusion by sending M302
( M302 S<0 or 1> - allow cold extrusion. Without S parameter it will allow. S1 will disallow.)
As for the stepping - absolutely see what the problem is with my maths, it serves me right for tinkering while tired! Thank you for that! !
I just tried again with the extruders. I have had them at 0 and 1, 1 and 2, ensured they are up to temperature, and I cannot get extruder 2 to move at all. Hardware has been tested, I've swapped cables, motors and drivers, all good. When I select extruder 1 / 2, the X axis moves the distnace I put in the offset (+9 and -9mm for the chimera), so I know it is selecting hte extruder.
I can manage with one extruder for now, but having read so many other things about similar issues, nothing seems to resolve mine.
(Thank you, very very much, for your time and help!! if ever you have any questions about old rusty Volkswagens, brewing cider or building engines please do fire them my way haha!)
your configuration is for using E2 and E3 socket as far as i can see
btw... why do you use the old FW?
I have other things to change anyway, so may as well change this too. For testing though I'll move the stepper over and see what it does - bet it works!
