Filament Selection for Slicer

I setup ABS and PLA settings for temperatures in the Cura configuration.  On the main slicer page there's a dropdown to select which type of filament.  But no matter what I select, when it generates the G-Code it always picks whatever is in default.  Anyone else have this, or is everyone manually adjusting the default every time?
