random Connection closed by os during print ... trying reconnect for 10 seconds to continue ... while printing
Repetier-Server 1.2.1
Repeiter-firmware 1.0.4
It came on completely by accident, the printer has been printing for about a year without any problems.
It happens regularly every 1 to 3 hours.
I was changed an USB cable.

Comments

  • Printing from a Raspberry Pi or full pc?
If pi - do you see undervoltage in the bolt menu?
If it happens note the exact time and open /var/log/syslog the same timestamp to see what linux did and why? Apart from undervoltage causing a usb disconnect I also have seen back EMF as reason in logs.

For linux there is an option to try to silently reconnect usb and continue print. As test do a test print, unplug usb cable and replug it within 10 seconds. This was added to make printers with such problems work seamlessly. But does not work on all boards and only if printer does not reset, but the option tries to keep dtr/dtr the same so it does not send reset signal.

Yes, I use raspi 4. In the menu i can't see errors with voltage.

I tested autostart system after reconnect USB - it not work auto, but it work manual ok.

That is bad overcurrent and also the usb read error following. You also see linux disconnects usb devices here. And it seems you have several devices on same port - al least several ports report overcurrent. So is this a hub in between?

One thing you can try is remove 5V pin from printer to pi as described here:
    https://www.repetier-server.com/knowledgebase/undervoltage-and-throtteling-of-pi/

then we get no power over usb from printer and printer also does not draw power when unconnected.

Also one tip for testing your problems. Login via ssh and run this command:
    tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep usb

it will directly show in that window any usb related messages. So you can directly see what happened. Next step must be to determine where the problems exactly come from, see if taping 5v helps or if e.g. a webcam or whatever is connected causes problems. But overcurrent must come from a device with own power.  Plus undervoltage might also be an error but might also improve with taping 5v.

I think that this man was helped to me
I have one print today without errors and stops.
  • Hi! Today i has an other error and stoped printing. I has disconnected +5 V from the printer. I will tested an other USB cable.
  • I has the error if the printer do nothing. It looks like timer.
  • What do you mean? It can also happen when you disable e.g. all heaters at once. At least that is what we have already seen with other users.

If the printer is turned on all day continuously and without work, there will be these errors
  • Ok so disturbences are not related to motor/heater being active.

Hi! I think that it undervoltage. Today i has regular disconnected from printer. I connected used ssh to raspberry pi and in console i sow:
Your pi suffered from undervoltage! This can cause instabilities and a lot of errors. See
    https://www.repetier-server.com/knowledgebase/undervoltage-and-throtteling-of-pi/
But i not see the message to web repetier-server. I don't know why. Can i enabled the notification manualed?
I connected an other powersupply to raspberrypi 4 an other and test it.

  • You see it in bolt icon in our gui. There you see also the undervoltage warning. Icon gets warning/error color depending on current/past condition.

On pi 4 it can also make a difference if you use usb 2 or usb 3 ports. Since printers use usb 2 and can not talk faster usb 3 has no advantage anyway.

  • How long was the gui open? The hardware info is just send once per minute and only appears after first message.

But I see it in your ssh shell and it would not differ. So you have at least had undervoltage and it is a potential issue - also not always. You could try the 5v pin taping solution to reduce usage by printer. Then printer will also only show up if main power is enabled. Reduces usage by 300-500mA depending on what your printer has all connected to it.

How long was the gui open? The hardware info is just send once per minute and only appears after first message.

But I see it in your ssh shell and it would not differ. So you have at least had undervoltage and it is a potential issue - also not always. You could try the 5v pin taping solution to reduce usage by printer. Then printer will also only show up if main power is enabled. Reduces usage by 300-500mA depending on what your printer has all connected to it.
I tested it. GUI was openned about 5 mins and i not saw the message but in ssh console i saw
    pi@RepetierServer:~ $ vcgencmd get_throttled
    throttled=0x50000

  • Strange. Cat you try executing manually
    /var/lib/Repetier-Server/scripts/hardware_info
that is the script delivering the content for bolt icon. Question is if it crashes or does not run or even does not exist to narrow why it does not appear.

But that is not really relevant here for your issue. We already know you had undervoltage and it would just show the same when it runs. But would still be interesting why it fails for you in case it is something I can fix.

    pi@RepetierServer:~ $ sudo /var/lib/Repetier-Server/scripts/hardware_info
    sudo: /var/lib/Repetier-Server/scripts/hardware_info: command not found

I changed a powersupplay of raspberrypi. It work ok now. Thx!
But i want see the undervoltages messages into GUI.
  • Ok good to hear that new supply helps.

The sudo /var/lib/Repetier-Server/scripts/hardware_info works for me but from message I have to assume that the file is just missing. So deleted file and reinstalled server (it keeps all setting) and it created the file again. So no idea why you do not have the file as installing 1.3.0 should have added the file. But the fact that it is missing is the reason you do not see it in gui.

So as solution I suggest reinstalling the latest version. In newer images all you need to execute is
    installLatestServer

and it will fetch and install latest version.
  • I see the files.

  • Strange so file is there. What does
    ls -l /var/lib/Repetier-Server/scripts/
    show. Also what does
    sudo /var/lib/Repetier-Server/scripts/hardware_info

now show. I mean when the program is there as you say and if it has x permission it should be executable.

Upgrading to bullseye is no option - at least if you have a pi cam it will not work with mjpg_streamer any more.

I have no a pi cam. I has Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:081b Logitech, Inc. Webcam C310. Will be think about upgrade the Debian to 11. Thx!

  • Ok for some reason the x flag is not set here. Run
    sudo chmod a+rx /var/lib/Repetier-Server/scripts/hardware_info
and then it should start to appear after a minute.

I found the bug in our post install script where there was a type in the line setting permissions. Only users with newer images did get it, because the script is there preinstalled correctly with execute permissions. Thanks for finding the issue.
