firmware upload

Hi.... 

i just looked through the options and i found the firmware upload option.... 

what is that about? i guess that its to upload firmware instead of using arduino ide... 

but is there any benefits? does it check if firmware is current etc?

    The benefit is more for printer vendors offering updates as binary or if computer is not where your computer is. It does no additional checks just as the arduino ide.

    that might be usefull....

    when i do overnight prints i move the printer at the other end of my flat so i can sleep :-D


    how does the binary work? is it just a hex file that the IDE can create?

    Yes, it is the hex or bin file arduino creates and writes it's location at the end of compilation. Our manual describes it in more detail.
