Heated Bed disables after connecting server

Hi,

I'm still working on updating my Firmware, now mostly running but run in a strange problem. When I upload the firmware, the heated bed works normal, but as soon as I connect with Repetier Server to the printer, the display of the heated bed temp on the display changes to zero, and I can't turn the heat on anymore. Even when I disconnect the server and reset the printer there is no heated bed. When I upload the firmware again the heated bed is back. what can this be?

  • That sounds strange. I guess connecting resets board which is ok and intentional, but would disable bed if it was on.
    None the less it should be no problem to enable it again in server. You should open console and enable Commands and ack and disable filter M105. Reset printer and check console. Enavle heater in server and check console. You should see temperature response having set temperture or you should have gotton an error message why heaters are disabled.

    Set temperture 0 means disbled so after connect that would be ok, but not when you activate heating.
  • How can  I enable heater in server? I can only find the max temp settings for the bed, no enable button.
  • I opend the console and set the buttons you suggested, below is the outcome. I did some more testing, and found that if I reset the Eprom with the button on the printer the bed temp reading comes back, even with the server active. If I reset with the USB disconected I get the values, then when I plug in they are gone. So every time the printer reboots the bed temp is disabled, and after a reset off the Eprom they're back.

    Does this make sense?

  • b.t.w. I didn't find an enable button for the bed, but did find a temp setting in the console, to witch the printer responds
  • Enabling bed is done by sending the temperature. If that works all is ok. As I said on connect it resets printer and disables temperatures.

    In console output you still had M105 filter on so no temperatures appear there. Also it should cover a time from where you set a bed temperature, but I guess from what you write all is ok, you just expected the temperature to stay when connecting.
  • I retried, now with the filter of. below the values.
    The printer only works fine after I reset the Eprom, this has to be done after every reset of the board. without a reset I can set the values in the console, but they have no effect. Also in the host the entire bed temp setting is gone.

    So it seems somehow the default settings aren't loaded after a reset


  • I found out that if I send a M502 through the host, the printer displays the temp of the bed again. I added M502 to the startup_gcode in the firmware but this doesn't work. It seems like the eeprom values arent read, max jerk for example stays on 0, while it is set to 20 in the firmware. When I turn the EEprom of in firmware all temp values are displayed on the display, even after a reset.

    I also cleared the eeprom with a little arduino sketch, but this also didn't help. same with restoring the eeprom with the values i downloaded from the original firmware.
  • Or sounds like one of the PID variables in eeprom is not a correct value and M502 replaces it with good ones. Did you also send M500 afterwards to store new values to eeprom?

    Strange part is

    The measured temperature does not depend on PID it soley depends on sensor and pin which are both not saved in eeprom. Only way to change it afterwardsa is with TEMP_GAIN enabled and one of the values for gain is invalid.
  • I did send a M500 behind the M502, but this has no effect. It could be the pid values are wrong, I never changed them from the website. I figured the were default and I'll fine tune later. Values were P196, I 33 and D was 92.

    Today I tried to remove the pid controler for the bed, and set the firmware to dead time control, but tis gives the same result
  • Just checked and you have 
    #define TEMP_GAIN 1
    Set it to 0 and increase EEPROM_MODE to force initalizing eeprom with new values. That should get rid of the bad value causing the NaN.
    PID values for I is quite big it is normally more like 0.3 but you can run M303 for the extruder to find out good values.
  • I turned the Temp_Gain off, and on again, and Off again. And this indeed was the problem. When the gain is on the temp of the bed doesn't work
  • Gain on would work but there is apparently a invalid number in the eeprom place of it. But normally it is not needed so leaving it off is ok. Had recently done somthing with it so maybe you would need 1.0.5dev to have it working correctly.
