z Leveling

Hi, I am still having a lot of issues.  At this rate of asking questions and waiting a day or two, I expect to have it done maybe at the end of the month.  I wish there was someone to call and I would have it done in 15 minutes.  Anyway, I followed the video you produced (thank you) and I have pasted the log after my M99 commands where I used a rod to align the carriages.  I note here that I had to use the screws that hold the rods into them as the printed parts that attach the rods to the sliders are very uneven, not well made.  So anyway, I get the errors listed and have still, no clear idea of what I am doing (even though I am a former electronics hardware engineer).  I am one of those folks who have to understand what and why he is doing something before he can do them I guess.  And thank you so much for your responses to my previous questions.

  • Looks like you settings in eeprom are not correct, I guess from earlier uploading without delta activated or so, see

    means you wanted to reach a position a few meters from center. So please echeck eeprom especially zprobe values for unusual values so z probing starts working. Guess it is the offset that is totally wrong.

    is also not good. A check was triggered if all 3 endstops were hit loosened  and hit again. So maybe your z height is not near the truth (leave it smaller then reality until you know exact height) so it didn't went all the way up, or you did not release all switches after the first hit. Homing goes up and a distance back (which might be too short) and then up again in slower speed.
  • I cannot figure this out without some idea of what I am doing here.  Here is the dump from my eeprom
    AGain, when I see things like Floor saftey margin and have no idea how to calculate that, or Max Horz Radius, Should I extrapolate corners? What criteria should I use , Again these are examples of about HALF of the things I need to enter values for but do not have any documentation to give me even an idea of where to start.  Is there a fully commented config.h I can use to help me?  Is there somewhere where somebody who has not been emersed in this for years like most here have been, like me, get a handle on this without spewnding a month figure it out by trial and error? (a year after fixing damage to printer)  I find no books and all who write SW assume that everybody knows what is up with what has been done.  I have been told that my offset is wrong.  What offset? where is it found? The only word "offset" I find besides the extruder (and I have no idea what that is for either, since it does not say) is the X Y Zprobe offset which I take to mean what direction/distance the probe is from the nozzle.  But again I must guess since I have no udea what it means because I find no explaination for it either.  Surely with all the users of this out there someone has written how to determine what values to enter for all this stuff ? ?
    My printer seems to want to work, it moves fine, homes fine even seemed to z probe fine except for all the errors.  but half the entries I made on the Configurator tool were complete guesses since half the entries (at least half) give no indication on how to determine them.  PLEASE HELP

  • Is #define ENDSTOP_Z_BACK_MOVE 2 set high enough to cause all switches to untrigger? That's the only thing I guess could cause homing fail i z length was set correctly. Also set floor safety margin to 0. It will try to prevent sliders move through bottom, which is normally prevented mechanical anyway and requires invalid position to do so. But it may prevent reaching outer points if set too high.

    You extrapolate corners only if you can not reach these positions like indicated in the picture of the config tool.

    It looks like you have a Delta setup and I might be able to help you out here. Also, use WordPad for opening Configuration.h. It will list your settings with line breaks. 

    Floor Safety Margin is the distance between the bottom of your carriages and the bed when the hot end is touching the bed. Usually you decrease it a bit to allow some margin for thermal expansion/contraction.

    Max Horizontal Radius is pretty self explanatory. Whats the maximum radius capability of your printer? You can position the effector by hand to it's "maximum" x or y position and then just measure with a ruler to center.

    Most of the settings are not out to confuse you, they are fairly self explanatory. However, I had a lot of trouble when trying to configure my delta endstops. Also, the geometry (dimensions) can be tricky. Z Length is just what you think it is, the capable build height of your printer. The Diagnol Rod Length is the c2c of your ball joints. The Horizontal Radius when Centered is horizontal c2c of your ball joints. 

    If you have your dimensions incorrect then z-probing is never going to work well.

    I'm having the same problem when running G132 S1 on my Kossel. I'm using hall effect endstops. My actual build height is 317.5 mm and my horizontal radius is 90 mm.

    I read in another thread on github that this issue can happen on tall printers with 300+ mm and radius greater than 85 mm. I changed horizontal radius to 84 mm just to see but it still fails. I also tried increasing the factor to 2.5, 3.0 and even 4.0 in Printer.cpp on line 1141.

    I set Z max length lower than actual, tried from 310 mm down to 290 mm as suggested elsewhere, also tried 330 mm (over-sized).

    Every time I run G132 S1 there is always one endstop that does not trigger and I get the homing failed message.

    Exact same issue for me as well, with my Geeetech Rostock. Repetier version 0.92.5. I can't try 0.91 because it doesn't seem to be compiling on my ultimaker clone board.

  • I have uploaded a new version.

    I think the problem comes with new endstop handling. After G132 all endstops might be triggered when homing starts and that seems to confuse home. Endstops should not be triggered before and after homing. So I added a small down move after G132 and before homing what hopefully helps.

    Good news is that at the time of the message G132 has already succeeded, it is only the homing afterwards that failes so you could just rehome then. Endstop correction stays stored correct.
  • For the invalid moves question you need to find the "minimum squares" solution for the printer radius in question before that will work correctly. example:
    my print surface is a pyrex disc 90mm in RADIUS.
    my print radius is 70mm radius. on that disc.
    the first probe point is X-60.62 Y-35  (lower left corner of a square inside that 70mm radius, this is where the square and circle intersect)
    the second is X60.62 Y-35 (lower right)
    the third is X-60.62 Y35 (upper right)
    for distortion i have Full correction 0.5, reduce correction 1, 5 points per axis, Extrapolate corners(you may not be able to reach them, depending on how large  your radius and square are on a delta)
    Correction radius is 35 (each quadrant is a 'Radius" of points, square in shape, all 4 must fit inside your "Least Squares" solution for me on my daughters delta its 35sq.
