motors just vibrate

HI   i just flashed Repetier on my prusa I3 running a mega 2560 and ramps 1.4 .The  Extruder motor does extrude/retract although reversed. The X,Y,Z steppers just vibrate loudly . Bed heater and nozzle heater both function normally too . Any Ideas ? Thanks in Advance

  • For extruder invert direction. There is a checkbox for this in config tool.

    Motors vibrating have either not enough current (there is a poti to set proper current, see docs of driver) or it gets blocked or acceleration is too high (microstepping not set as you think?) steps per mm too high, jerk too high or only one circuit has a connection, also it is unlikely to have the same contact problem on 3 motors.
  • Allso make sure you have fitted the 3 jumpers under each stepper driver on the ramps board, this sets them to 1/16 microstepping.

    I have similar problem, using Rumba+ board and DRV8825 step drivers on my delta. I previously had this board and drivers working with different firmware, so am relatively certain the problem is not hardware. I've also temporarily swapped out the drivers with A4988's I had on printer originally (the Rumba is replacing a MKS Gen with a fried mosfet).

    The 8825's are nominally toggled for 1/32 microstepping, but I've tried other settings with no success. Here is my current configuration.h motion settings:

    I need a sanity check. My accel and jerk setting don't look high to me, I've tried tuning pots. Why won't my motors go? They just freeze and buzz. Drivers get hot and buzz.


  • Does printer start with motors disabled or does disabling motor gcode disable them s you can move them freely? This is to check if enable signal is defined correctly. Buzzing should indicate that is ok as you loose steps on moves. Check eeprom settings - maybe you have there invalid or too high values - config only replaces them on different EEPROM_VALUE. Otherwise use
    M502
    M500
    to copy them to eeprom so config values get used again.

    What is strange is

    The low acceleration should be no problem if used.

    Changed STEPPER_HIGH_DELAY to 1. Motors stopped buzzing, but still did not engage. It may be that there is something in the EEPROM still as @Repetier suggested. 
  • So why not simply check eeprom for values:-)
