Extruder Stepper is not working!

I just built a i3 from kit, MKS Base 1.2, everything working excluded the extruder stepper, I used the local control function "move axis", it is good for X, Y, Z, but the extruder. i tried to connect the extruder to the z-axis, running "move axis", and it's working. i am sure the wiring is correct.

Can i update the firmware to solve the problem? But i have no idea how to backup the existing program.

Please help, thanks in advance.

Was the extruder hot? Extruders have some safety functions to block cold extrusion. In 0.92 you can use

M302 S1

to allow cold extrusion.

Does it mean the heat of the nozzle? The nozzle is hot and the PLA is melted. Only the stepper is not moving. The PLA cannot be loaded to the extrusion.

Ok, if it is hot it's not the cold extrusion problem. So it could be dry run in host activated or not all eeprom values set correctly (had this my self after a update). Try changing eeprom mode to reinitalize eeprom values in case they are the problem.

I'm having the same problem. Heater seems to be working and monitored in Host, but stepper motor won't work. I've tried M302 for cold extrusion, no help. Could this have something to do with the RAMPS calling this E0 but the Host software calling it Extruder 1?

No, host numbers extruders from 1 which is more human like but knows to start with 0 for firmware.

Are you using 0.92, because 0.91 has no cold extrusion.

Does the motor at least block when doing extrusion so it gets powered?

Am having same problem extruder motor will not work. Plugged into z motor - works - changed board same problem no extruder motor using version 1.0.6

Reloaded eprom settings - how seems to work - just need a new extruder -just rammed it into the bed. not very clever

My input for SeanT and others reading this conversation: My problem with the Extruder not working seemed to trace back to power supply troubles. After changing out the extruder motor to one that worked, my Z axis began acting up. Switched Extruder / Heater / Bed power supply to an old monster I had in storage, and all began working. Trouble is, that power supply outputs about 16V so the steppers are getting very hot. I plan to buy a 12V switching power supply as a final remedy. I also had to check "reverse motor direction" on the Extruder motor in the web site configuration.Lastly, the M302 cold extrusion command was helpful in debugging.

HiI also have problem with dual extruders. I am using Bondtechs extruder connected to Rapms 1.4. Ext. 1 is connected to E0 and Ext.2 to E1. Heating of both heaters is working aswell as the termistors. I get both extruders up in Repetier Host 2.0.1 but only extruder 1 (E0) is running. I have tested with new stepper driver and also change the Cables between them. Allways Ext(E0) that is working but both extruder steppers is working. All other steppers (X,Y and Someone that can help me?/

If driver is ok it could still be one of the pins on to the driver. First test if mobing extruder 2 enables the motor. Should then block. If not test if orientation is correct and if invert enable signal is wrong in config.

if it is blocking the next question is if step signal comes through. Not sure how to do best. You would need to remove stepper driver and measure the signals on step pin, ideallywith logic analyser but i guess you have none. A multimeter should also show something different then 0 when you extruder with high speed

Then extruder with high speed but only 100. you have configured that long extrude moves will be ignored so do not try lopng moves. Better a script with many smaller moves in relative extrusion mode.

Problem solved.It was the Ramps 1.4 that had some errors, Tested with Another board and now E0 and E1 is working.Thanks.BR
