windows 8 connects but have no manual control and printer not reporting back to computer.

I was not connecting thru com4 until I turned off the server. Now it connects but there appears to be no communication between the printer and laptop. Extruder and bed not heating up and I have no manual control over any axis.

Set transfer protocol to automatic. Make sure com4 is really the printer port - removing printer should make it disappear. Then you need the right baud rate. Becoming connecte donly means port is connected, but it must be able to read signals correct so right baud rate is important.
