What type/pitch is your lead screw, a lot of the lead screws on sale are multi start ie 2 or 4 thread ends, so if you have a 4 start 2mm pitch this will equal 8 mm pitch so at 1/16 usteps it will be 400 steps/mm,this will be insanely slow for a x axis.
