Slic3r Settings Causing Skirt, but No Kilt? First Layer Help Needed

Hey everyone, I'm using Repetier-Host with Slic3r, and I'm having a strange issue — my prints start with a skirt just fine, but when the actual first layer begins, it doesn't stick well or sometimes doesn’t print at all. It’s like my printer is dressed for the print party, but never puts on the actual kilt . Temps and bed leveling seem okay, so I’m wondering if it’s a Slic3r setting I’m missing? Using a Trevo Flash printer, PLA filament, and a heated bed. Any tips on improving that crucial first layer after the skirt? Appreciate the help — I’d like my printer to show up fully dressed next time!

Try using a higher first layer then normal layers. 0.2-0.3mm often can help the layer to stick better. Also first layer temperature can be a bit higher to improve as well. If it doe snot stick it is either bed has bad bonding, bed temperature, distance to bed not perfect or not enough pressure to bed on first layer. Not sure but skirt is thicker then regular extrusion so doing the same might help here or reducing z height a bit. It is really hard to say depending on which reason is causing it.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll try bumping up the first layer height and temp — makes sense that giving it a bit more “weight” helps it stick. I think my Z offset might need fine-tuning too. Funny enough, it’s like trying to get a proper kilt to sit just right — too high or too loose and everything falls apart! Hopefully with a few tweaks, my printer will finally stop throwing off its "kilt" halfway through the first layer. Appreciate the help!
