3D printer not moving on any axis

I am building a cherry 3D printer from Instructables I connected everything onto ramps with a4988 drivers but on repetier it shows connection timeout reset buffer block on repetier host and the manual control is not working this is the first time I am connecting on repetier

  • You are simply not talking to printer. Getting green = connected means with serial->usb converter but does not mean host understands answers. Most probably you used wrong baud rate. Try 115200 and 250000. One of them normally works.

  • After setting the baud settings to 115200 the printer makes a noise when I tried to move the axis but doesn't move

  • No it doesn't do anything I keep getting these wait commands over and over again and when I tried to move the axis there is a noise coming from ramps or maybe from motor s I can't tell
  • Sounds good so far. Connection works and the sound is most probably a stepper loosing step hence not moving. Typical reasons are steps per mm too high, moving to fast, motion blocked and current for motor set to low. After enabling motor you should be able to rotate it manually quite easily. After moving motor normally stays on and should block motion by hand. You should need quite some force now to rotate motor or it has no power. After that is clear you can check the other possible reasons. Steps per mm can be change din eeprom.

    BTW: M115 at beginning should work. As long as you hear sound it might be working on some move commands like homeing and answers come when finished with them. "Ok 152" shows that at least 152 commands were already received so com is ok.

  • Log says nothing in that problem. It never shows missed steps. More interesting is how many steps per mm and which speed did you use? Could it be that you have no microstepping in drivers enabled so speeds are 16x faster then expected?
  • I set 400 steps per mm for x and y, and 800 for z axis I have jumper configuration for pins 1=yes ,2=yes,3= yes for xyz and extruder and this is the eprom config       below config has default steps per mm i have changed it as above                 t

  • Ok so,
    looking at the construction of the cherry printer, it uses GT2 pullies on the X and Y drives, at 1/16th micro stepping your X and Y steps/mm should be aprox 80.    (400 is far to high and will probably make the motors sit and squeel at you).

    The Z axis is useing M5 0.8 pitch threaded rods so at 1/16th stepping  this needs 4000 steps/mm

    You can edit the x y z steps directly in the eeprom editor in repetier host
